Library Board To Meet

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Library Board is having a meeting Tuesday, July 8, at the library at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Jackson Center To Host Virtual Programming Regarding Ukraine

The Robert H. Jackson Center will host a virtual program on Wednesday, July 9 at noon to explore the legal, political and strategic efforts behind establishing the Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine. The panel will feature leading international prosecutors and human rights advocates who are directly involved in shaping the tribunal’s concept and processes. The discussion will examine the tribunal’s legal foundations, political implications, and its potential to reshape international criminal justice. This timely and vital conversation will highlight how political compromise, legal precedent, and global resolve converge in response to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Panelists will address jurisdictional challenges, including prosecuting high-ranking officials, and reflect on what this tribunal could mean for the future of the rule of law worldwide.

Author To Speak At Fenton History Center

Native western New Yorker Wendy Lewellen will speak about her book, “Good Soles, Chautauqua Rails to Trails, Namesakes and Trailblazers” at 7 p.m. on July 9 at the Fenton History Center, 67 Washington St., Jamestown. The lecture is free, however donations will be accepted. She will talk about the origins of the trails and how they came to be named after local individuals.

Ripley School Board To Gather

RIPLEY – The reorganizational meeting of the Board of Education of the Ripley Central School District, followed immediately by the regular board meeting, will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 119 of the Ripley Central School.

Hand-On-History Day Camp Set

The Busti Historical Society, the home of the late September Apple Festival, will be holding two summer camps for children in grades 1-3 and 4-6. The camps are called Hands-On-History camp. Students in grades 1st through 3rd grade will meet the week of July 14-18 from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by a similar camp the next week for 4th-6th grade students, July 20-24, again 9 a.m. to noon. The camps will be held at the Busti Historical Society grounds on Lawson Rd, south of Jamestown. The students will learn how the 1839 restored grist mill works, how grain becomes flour, and why the mill was so important to the people of the Busti hamlet. The students will also tour the Busti museum, the restored miller’s house, make historic inspired crafts, play period appropriate games, and learn about life in the mid-1800s.” Details are available at www.busti-historical-society.weebly.com. The camp is by reservation only. Reservations are due by July 17. The fee for each camper is $150 per week.
