Mayville Announces Closures Ahead Of July 4th

MAYVILLE – The boat launch at Lakeside Park will be closed on July 3-5. This is due to the fact that organizers have to get the barges in place and loaded with fireworks for the July 4th show.

It will remain closed until the barges are removed on July 5. Also, the public T dock near the Mayville Depot will be closed at 8 p.m. on July 4th and will reopen following the finale of the fireworks display.

Routes 394 and 430 will be closed through Mayville at 9:30 a.m. on Friday July 4th for the annual Independence Day parade. They will reopen at approximately noon, or after the parade is finished.

If you will be traveling in that vicinity you will be rerouted so please plan accordingly.

Audubon Little Explorers Learn About Pond Life

Bring your 3 to 8-year-old(s) to Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers, 10-11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 12 for “Pond Life.”

For many plants and animals, ponds can be the perfect home or just one important stop in their life cycle.

After a short lesson indoors, head outside to explore the ponds at Audubon. Look for evidence of larger animals, and explore some of the organisms that live and feed in ponds. Learn about the plants and turtles on the shore, the fish and tadpoles swimming through the water, the insects in the mud below, and more.

Using tools such as nets and containers gives a closer look at what is living below the surface of a pond. Learn how to use a net to collect and look closely at macroinvertebrates: snails, worms or maybe even a tadpole.

A snack is provided after the hike and a craft is offered if there is time.

Little Explorers takes place regardless of the weather, so dress accordingly.

The fee is $12 for adults, $9 for children ages 3-8 and Nature Center members.

Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total.

To make your paid reservations required by Thursday, July 10, call (716) 569-2345 during business hours or go online to AudubonCNC.org/events.
