Westfield NY Forward Grant Committee To Meet

WESTFIELD – The first meeting of the Westfield NY Forward Local Planning Committee will be held at Eason Hall, 23 Elm St., Westfield, on Tuesday, May 20, at 6 p.m. The Village of Westfield was awarded $4.5 million through Round 3 of the NY Forward program, an initiative of New York state to support the revitalization of smaller downtowns. All members of the public are encouraged to attend. The May 20 meeting will include an overview of the NY Forward program, a presentation on the components of the Strategic Investment Plan, a review of Westfield’s NY Forward application and a discussion on the open call for projects process.

Pive Valley To Host Art Show

SOUTH DAYTON – The community is invited to the Pine Valley Central School District’s annual art show on Tuesday, May 20, between 5 and 7 p.m. Featuring the artwork of students in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, the show takes place at Pine Valley Jr./Sr. High School. New this year is “Teachers/Staff from the Valley Art Exhibit” on display. In addition, there will be a Gummy Bear Guessing contest and a $1 bake sale fundraiser.

Jamestown Schools To Hold District Art Show

Artwork by students from across Jamestown Public Schools will be on public display during the annual district art show on Tuesday, May 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to enter through the gymnasium doors at Jefferson Middle School, 195 Martin Road.Each Jamestown art teacher selected pieces of student artwork to include in the show. With hundreds of works of art from kindergarten through 12th grade, the district’s talented artists will have the opportunity to showcase their creative art skills to their families and the community. “The District Art Show is a celebration of the skill and dedication our students bring to the arts,” said Christopher Scarpine, JPS coordinator of arts and humanities. “We invite the entire community to join us in recognizing the incredible work of our student artists.” Light refreshments will be served during the opening of the show on May 20. A virtual presentation of the pieces will be made available on May 21 at jpsny.org/artshow.

Randolph School Budget Vote, Board Election Is May 20

First Lutheran Church Store Hosting Children’s Sale

The First Lutheran Church Community Store, 120 Chandler St., Jamestown, will be having a children’s clothing sale on May 20, May 22, May 27 and May 29. Everything will be 25 cents. The store is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. Enter on the Center Street entrance with the awning.

Soldier Circle Flag Placement Ceremony Is May 22

The Veterans Memorial Commission of the city of Jamestown will host the annual flag placement ceremony at Soldier Circle in Lake View Cemetery on Thursday, May 22, at 4 p.m. in observance of Memorial Day. The public is encouraged to attend and participate in honoring those who served. Each year, this solemn tradition brings together residents to place American flags at the gravesites of those who served in the nation’s armed forces. A brief ceremony will be held at Soldier Circle before volunteers begin the flag placement across the cemetery. “Honoring those who served is one of the most important things we can do as a community,” said Veterans Memorial Commission Chair Keith Ecklund. “Each flag we place is a reminder that behind every name is a story of courage and service.
