Southwestern School Board To Meet Today

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. today in the board room for its budget hearing and a meet the candidates event for school board candidates. The public is welcome to attend.

Bemus Point Speaker Series Ends Wednesday

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series completes the spring season on Wednesday, May 14, by welcoming Dr. Thomas L. Greer as he provides a program discussing the Walnut Grove Archaeological Project which he began in 2012 on the grounds of the Gov. Rueben Fenton Mansion in Jamestown. The talk will focus on the mansion, landscape and outbuildings present during the Fenton’s occupation from 1864 to 1920. The event is free and open to the public beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bemus Point Village Hall on Alburtus Avenue in Bemus Point. The adjacent Bemus Point Historical Society Museum will be open at 6:30 p.m. for touring prior to the presentation.

Fluvanna Cemetery Association To Meet May 15

FLUVANNA – The Fluvanna Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting May 15, at 6 p.m. in the cemetery building. Lot owners are welcome to attend.

Kennedy Library Hosting Fundraiser Dinner May 17

KENNEDY – The Kennedy Free Library will host a 100 Dinner on May 17 at 5 p.m. at the Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department on Daily Hill Road in Kennedy. Tickets cost $25 each and include dinner for two people. Dinner will include pulled pork, roll, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert. There will also be coffee, water, soda and beer. All proceeds will benefit the Kennedy Free Library. Tickets can be purchased at the Kennedy Free Library or by clicking on the PayPal link on their website at kennedyfreelibrary.org. Only 100 tickets are available. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50 drawing as well.

Zentangle Workshop Is May 17 At Myers Library

FREWSBURG – On Saturday, May 17, at noon, Kelly from the Whimsy by Kelly studio in Buffalo will visit the Myers Memorial Library for a workshop on Zentangle. Learn how to create intricate patterns, find one’s focus, and let creativity flow. All materials will be provided, and those attending will take some supplies home to continue their Zentangle journey. Reservations are required for by calling the library or visiting the library.

Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Accepting Rummage Sale Items

CASSADAGA – The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 will be holding its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Donations are accepted through Friday. The sale does not accept electronics/computers, exercise equipment, encyclopedias or car parts. For more information call 716-595-3145. The auxiliary will meet at 6:30 p.m. today, with officers to be elected during the meeting.

First Lutheran To Host Special Music Sunday

First Lutheran Church will be celebrating Church Music Sunday on Sunday. Contemporary worship will be held at 9 a.m. and the traditional service at 11 a.m. The Sacred Fire Praise Team will lead the 9 a.m. service with Kimberly King as the contemporary worship leader and coordinator. At the 11 a.m. service, Brian A. Bogey, organist/choirmaster, will play “Praise Him! Praise Him!” by Mary McDonald for the prelude followed by Gail Espinoza, guest pianist, who will perform a special prelude entitled “Meditation on O Waly Waly” arranged by Joseph Martin. The First Lutheran Choir will perform two choral anthems including “Let Us Love One Another” by Arnold Sherman, with Kimberly Larson, as the guest flautist for the anthem. The choral anthem at the offertory will be “When We Worship God Through Music” by Eugene Butler. The liturgist for the 11 a.m. worship service will be Kimberly Larson, Jane Young will be the lector, and Peter Larson will be the hymn cantor. The Rev. Mark E. Swanson will be the celebrant and preacher at both worship services that will celebrate Holy Communion. The public is welcome to attend.
