Red Cross To Host Blood Drive

LAKEWOOD – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Chautauqua Mall, 318 E Fairmount Ave., Lakewood. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Sinclairville Library To Host Paper Album Class Oct. 10

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Sinclairville Free Library will host a Beginner’s Paper Album Class at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 for those ages 13 and up. A fee of $13 will cover the cost of all materials with instruction provided by Lynn Wigren, Creative Memories Advisor and scrapbooker, cardmaker, and papercrafter since 1995. Call the library at 716-962-5885 or email info@sinclairvillelibrary.org to register in advance so that adequate supplies will be available. Class participants will work on completing an 8″ by 8″ paper album by adding photos on the predesigned pages. The focus of this class will be on creating mats using the paper trimmer, use of ABC/123 stickers and creation of borders. Participants will need to bring at least 12 photos (up to 20 photos) of the same event or theme chosen to complete the album. There will be a choice of paper album themes including: Spring Delight (1), Fall (3), Nordic Winter (1), Birthday Bonanza (1) and This Life (1). The number available of each type of kit is listed. Frewsburg School Board Meets Thursday

FREWSBURG – The Frewsburg Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 5:45 p.m. Thursday to hold an anticipated executive session to receive and review the draft annual audit report and accompanying draft management letter. Its regular meeting will be held following, at 6:30 p.m. in the middle-high school library. The public is welcome to attend.

Historian To Present Local Pottery Program

SINCLAIRVILLE – The program about the early 19th century redware/stoneware pottery in Gerry, operated by Caleb Mathews, has been rescheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Sinclairville Library. Mathews ran the pottery from 1821 to about 1850. Historian Vince Martonis, who has studied the pottery for over 40 years, will display many pieces of Mathews’ pottery along with pottery sherds from the site. He will teach the attendees how to identify the work of Mathews by studying his “nested numbers” and his “grip edge handles.” Specimens of Mathews pottery on loan from the Fenton will also be on display. Martonis’s recently published book about the pottery, with 30 color photos and 19 black and white, will be for sale below cost at $15.
