American Legion Auxiliary Holds Meeting

CASSADAGA – Cassadaga American Legion Auxiliary Unit 1280 met recently with 12 members attending. The chaplain reported she has sent get well and sympathy cards to members; and recently the unit held a funeral luncheon for the family of a Post 1280 Legionnaire. Unit 1280’s membership dues for 2025 are now being accepted; $30 dues can be mailed to Attn: Sally Lawson, Post 1280 228 Maple Ave., Cassadaga, or at the post. On Sunday Oct. 6, the legion, auxiliary, and Sons of the Legion are sponsoring an open to the public Oktoberfest/Tailgate party at the post from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be Oktoberfest food favorites and drinks available for purchase during the Buffalo Bills/Houston Texans game. There will also be a non-perishable food drive to benefit the Cassadaga Food Pantry. Unit 1280 is making plans for its annual vendor showcase on Oct.26 and a Veterans Day program. The next meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8.

SUNY Fredonia Professor, Pianist To Perform

FREDONIA – Natasha Farny, State University at Fredonia School of Music professor, and guest pianist Kuang-Hao Huang will perform music by French composers on Tuesday. Featured in the 8 p.m. recital, in Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall, will be compositions by Mel Bonis, Francis Poulenc and Camille Pepin. The recital is free and open to the public.

Holy Apostles Parish Choir Practices Have Begun

The Holy Apostles Parish Choir has begun its choir season. The choir will be singing on the first and third Sundays of the month at the 9 a.m. Mass at St. John’s Church and will sing on the second, fourth and fifth Sundays of the month at the 11 a.m. Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul Church.

Salvation Army Now Accepting Christmas Assistance Applications

The Salvation Army Jamestown will be taking applications for the 2024 Christmas Assistance Program from Oct. 7-11. Those who need help should bring the following documents: proof of all household members (photo ID for everyone over 18, birth certificate, Social Security card, or insurance card) for all minor children; proof of all household income (employment, unemployment, DSS, food stamps, SSI, child support) and proof of all household expenses (rent, utilities, car payment, insurance, etc.)

To Host Pet Blessing Sunday

First Lutheran Church will have their blessing of the pets Sunday at 2 p.m. Regular church worship hours will include the 9 a.m. Contemporary Service in the worship center and the 11 a.m. traditional service in the church nave. Holy Communion will be observed at both services led by the Rev. Mark E. Swanson, pastor of the church. All are welcome to attend.
