Meet Thursday
MAYVILLE – The Mayville Senior Citizens will meet Thursday at the VFW in Mayville at noon. The guest speaker will be Walter Gunther from Cattaraugus, N.Y., who will share his trip to Iceland. Bring a dish to pass along with place settings. All are welcome to attend.

Hold Special Meeting Oct. 3
SINCLAIRVILLE – A special meeting for the Board of Education of the Cassadaga Valley Central School District will be held on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Cassadaga Valley Middle/High School. Immediately following will be the facilities walk-through at the Middle/High School. The public is welcome to attend.
Author To Visit Sinclairville Library Saturday
SINCLAIRVILLE – Local author Adrienne J. Ploss, owner of the Hickory Hurst Farm, will visit the Sinclairville Free Library on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to introduce her book, Go Back. You Forgot the Flowers: A Nudge to Plant More Flowers Comes Full Circle 100 Years Later,” the history and story of her family’s 100-year-old farm. The author will answer questions about her book and present resources for researching genealogy and family history. The books will be available for purchase and signing by the author. The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, to observe Columbus Day.

To Publish’
Workshop Is
Saturday
SINCLAIRVILLE – Writers are invited to the Sinclairville Free Library for a free class being offered Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. “A Taste of How to Publish” will be presented by John Brantingham to teach about the fundamentals of publishing in literary magazines and small presses. Participants should bring a laptop and the work they would like to publish. They will learn the nuts and bolts of publishing, and if time allows, submit one piece for publication. Brantingham is the recipient of a New York State Arts Council grant and was Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks’ first poet laureate. His work has been in hundreds of magazines and The Best Small Fictions 2016 and 2022. He has published twenty-two books of poetry, nonfiction, and fiction. He has taught creative writing at MFAs and college programs across the world in the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and Canada, and at Mt. San Antonio College where he was a professor and director of the creative writing program for 25 years. He has specialized in helping students develop their creative writing, and he has helped hundreds to publish their stories, poems, essays, and books.

Outdoor Club To Explore Anders Run Sunday
On Sunday members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike in Penn’s Woods, exploring the Anders Run Natural Area outside Irvine with the Northwest Pennsylvania Woodland Association. The group will hear about old growth pine and hemlock trees and discuss the insects and diseases attacking these trees. Those attending should meet at the parking area on Dunns Eddy Road by 1 p.m. DCNR foresters will be leading the hike. The hike will be held rain or shine. Contact Linda Ross for any questions.
