Falconer Library To Discuss Quilts, Host Reception

FALCONER – Quilts created by Connie McCauley have been on display at the Falconer Public Library, 101 W. Main St., throughout the month of September. There will be a “Meet the Quilter” reception with McCauley on Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the library.

Pananma Fire District Changes Meeting Dates

PANAMA – Panama Fire District meetings that were to take place for September and October have been changed to new dates. The September meeting has been moved to 7 p.m. Thursday while the Oct. meeting has been moved to Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. For more information call Sydney Moats, district secretary, at 386-215-3645.

YMCA To Host Lifeguard Certification Class

The Jamestown YMCA will be offering an American Red Cross Pool Lifeguard certification class. The class will be held at the Jamestown YMCA and consists of classroom and pool sessions. Upon successful completion of the class students will be certified in ARC Lifeguarding, CPR-Pro, AED and first aid. The class will start with the pre-test on Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. All candidates must pass the pre-test to be allowed to participate for the class. Once the pre-test is passed the class runs weekends (Sept. 28, 29 and Oct. 4, 5) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Class consists of classroom and water skills each day. Candidates must be 15 by the last day of class and complete all skills proficiently and pass (80%) written tests. Potential students can register online at www.jamestownymca.org or in person at either Jamestown or Lakewood welcome centers by Sept. 27. Class size is limited. For the pre-test, potential lifeguards must be able to jump in teh pool, resurface, swim 150 yards using proper breaststroke and/or front crawl, tread water 2 minutes legs only and then swim 50 yards with proper crawl and/or breast. They must also swim 60 feet, recover a 10 pound object from the bottom and return 60 feet with the object.

Quilt Guild To Display Quilts Sept. 28

BUSTI – The Chautauqua Region Quilt Guild will be holding its second annual quilt display Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Busti Federated Church at the five corners in Busti. The display is during the first day of the Busti Apple Festival. The display is for one day since it is in the church sanctuary and narthex. In addition to having quilts on display, the guild will have a drawing for a free one-year membership which includes the rest of 2024. Quilts of Valor will have some items on display and information about the foundation and the local group. The guild supports many local organizations and groups in a variety of ways so that too will be on display. In 2023 the guild provided 260 pillowcases to the Boys and Girls Club, 13 quilts to refugee families in the Jamestown area, four quilts for benefits, 18 breast cancer pillows, 15 quilts to UPMC Chautauqua Cancer Care Center, seven quilts to Habitat for Humanity, 13 quilts to UPMC Chautauqua Maternity, six quilts to Heritage for seniors in assisted living, and 15 to UCAN for a total of 73 quilts, 18 breast cancer pillows, and 260 pillowcases. There is no charge to attend the quilt display.
