Society Living History Fair Is Saturday

BLOCKVILLE – The Harmony Historical Society will hold its Living History Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its headquarters, 1943 Open Meadows Road. There will be live demonstrations with all of the society’s buildings open, a walking trail, food, music and horse drawn wagon rides.

Lakewood Library To Host Book-Binding Class Saturday

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library will host a book-binding workshop using repurposed library covers at 11 a.m. Saturday with instructor Debra Eck. No experience is needed. To register call 716-762-6234.

Final Coffee & Cars Gathering

Is Sunday

The Chautauqua Lake Region Club of the Antique Automobile Club of America will host its final Coffee & Cars gathering at the gazebo at McCrea Point on Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon. The gathering happens rain or shine and is an opportunity for car enthusiasts to talk, see some interesting vehicles and have coffee, donuts and conversation. The public is invited to attend.

Outdoor Club To Hike Sunday In Cooks Forest

On Sunday, members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike the Longfellow Trail at Cooks Forest. It is a moderate 4-mile loop. The group will meet at Musante Street, Warren, at 1 p.m.to drive to Log Cabin Inn Big Trees Longfellow trail. Jim and Kim Berkey are the leaders for this hike.

PORTLAND – The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Cornell Lake Erie Regional Research & Extension Laboratory; 6592 West Main Road, Portland. The public is welcome to attend.

Library To Host Presentation On Death Cafes

LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library, 12 W. Summit St., Lakewood, will host a presentation on death cafes at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25. Death cafes are, “group directed discussions of death with no agendas, objectives or themes.” Based on the work of Bernard Crettaz, who believed conversations about death should include the sharing of food and drink, the first death cafe was organized in the United Kingdom by Jon Underwood. Lizzy Miles is credited with being the first person to offer a death cafe in the United States and Loretta Cheney will host the third such gathering at the Lakewood library.
