Red Cross To Hold Blood Drive At Mall June 13
LAKEWOOD – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. June 13 at the Chautauqua Mall, 318 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 16 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Introduction To Flower Pounding Scheduled For Thursday
SINCLAIRVILLE – Introduction to Flower Pounding with Brenda Nickerson will be held at the Sinclairville Free Library on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Flower pounding, also known as tataki-zome or “plant bashing,” is a craft that uses a hammer to transfer a flower’s natural pigment onto paper or fabric to create a print. Participants will learn which flowers and/or leaves work well and how hard to pound to get the desired results. Cost is $10 a person and spaces are limited. This program is partially funded by Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System’s Summer Reading 2024 Mini-Grant.
Coast Guard Auxiliary To
Host Safe
Boating Class
LAKEWOOD – The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-4 will teach the Boat America course in-person on Saturday, June 15, in Lakewood. The Boat America class is a nationally recognized course on operating boats and personal watercraft safely. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is approved by New York state for its requirement for eight hours of classroom boating safety training in order to operate boats and personal watercraft legally on New York state waters. New York state’s “Brianna’s” law will require all power boat operators regardless of age, to obtain a safe boating class certificate by Jan. 1, 2025. Students must be at least 10 years old. Upon completion of the eight-hour class, payment and exam, those taking the course will receive a U.S. Coast Guard boating certificate and laminated wallet card. The class will be presented June 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at American Legion Post 1286, 174 Chautauqua Ave., Lakewood. SWCS Class Of 1989 To Hold July 3 Reunion
The Southwestern High School Class of 1989 will celebrate their 35th graduation reunion on July 3. The event will be held at the Southern Tier Brewery from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event is free, but bring money for snacks and drinks. The brewery is located at 2072 Stoneman Circle in Lakewood.
