Knit-in-Public Observance Set
A celebration of A Worldwide Knit in Public Day on June 8 will be hosted by LadySong Fiber Arts Studio, Hotel Jamestown Building, 110 West Third St., Jamestown, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Knitters of all ages and skill levels are welcome. Those participating should bring a folding chair, a lunch if they wish, and their knitting project. The event will occur regardless of weather. Civil War Encampment Is This Weekend
Reenactors of the 9th NY Cavalry will offer living history experiences in Westfield’s Moore Park from June 7-9. The long-standing event provides historical context for the 9th NY Cavalry and Westfield during the Civil War. All activities are free and open to the public. The reenactors will set up tents on Friday evening. On Saturday, a flag raising ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the soldiers monument in Moore Park. The recruitment and mustering of soldiers, beginning at 10, will be among the demonstrations featured throughout the day. A sampling of Civil War letters will be read at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, also located in the park, at 2 p.m. Demonstrations of camp and military life begin at 3 p.m.. The reenactment weekend concludes at noon on Sunday following additional activities experienced by Civil War soldiers. Fenton Canteen To Be Held

The Fenton Canteen will be held Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon at 67 Washington St., Jamestown. Veterans of all ages and service dogs are welcome to attend. A special guest, Marine veteran Eric Hamilton, will receive the 2024 Soldier’s Friend Scholarship.
Genealogist To Speak Wednesday
RANDOLPH – The Randolph Historical Society will meet Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Randolph Municipal Building. The program that night will be a virtual presentation by Jeanette Sheliga of Jeaneatte’s Genealogy. Her presentation will be, Beginning Genealogy, Tips for Getting Started. The public is welcome to attend.
Pine Valley To Host Drive Your Tractor To School Day Friday
SOUTH DAYTON – Area motorists are urged to stay alert and use extra caution while driving in the Pine Valley Central School District region Friday. Numerous students from the junior/senior high school will be on the road in celebration of the district’s 20th annual Drive Your Tractor to School Day. Students bringing their farm equipment to campus must arrive by 7:30 a.m. and will be back on the road starting at 2:50 p.m. for their after-school commute. The agricultural tradition also features a visit by various livestock in collaboration with the district’s Future Farmers of America club, began at Pine Valley Central School in 2003. The only year Tractor Day was not held was in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
