Lakewood Library To Host Author Tuesday
LAKEWOOD – Local author/illustrator Sarah Brown-Millspaw will host a story time at the Lakewood Memorial Library on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for a journey into the world of “Blue!”, a new book for children of all ages. Story time will be followed by a craft inspired by the book. The library is located at 12 W. Summit St. Brown-Millspaw, a watercolor illustration artist, lives on a small farm outside of Westfield. She has been creating art her whole life and has been painting full time since 2020.

Artist Reception Wednesday
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library is hosting an exhibition of artwork by Susan Simmons in its gallery for the month of June. There will be an opening reception Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. The library is located at 12 W. Summit St. Simmons paints landscape, figurative and abstract paintings in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, and received her most recent award in Jamestown’s Roger Tory Peterson’s 2022 Plein Air Festival. She paints from life, photos, and her imagination. Her fine arts and graphic arts studies include Miami Made Community College, Everett Community College, and the University of Texas at Austin, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in fine art. Simmons lives in Jamestown.

Board To
Meet Thursday
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary board will meet Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the board room. The annual summer picnic will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 6 p.m. on the outside covered patio off of the club dining room. 3 C’s will be catering a chicken barbecue. The cost is $15 each which includes: chicken, potato salad, tossed salad, rolls, and a brownie. Ladies may bring one guest. The greeter is Ann Carlson. Helpers are Wanda McKotch and Arline Hazenberg. Entertainment is from Pat Cook singing “Women of Country.” There are no meetings in July or August.
Catholic Charities To Hold Open House Friday
To learn how Catholic Charities and other Jamestown area resources can help families and individuals, the organization is hosting an open house on Friday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its location at 42 Dunham Ave.
“Catholic Charities provides HOPE for our neighbors of all ages, regardless of faith, who are struggling with life’s challenges,” said Jessica Wolfe, Chautauqua County district director, Catholic Charities. “We can help with things like basic emergency assistance, family safety and stabilization, and connecting mothers and families to WIC. Other local organizations offer additional services such as workforce development and health care. We’re all here to help you.” In addition to Catholic Charities, participating organizations include “Be the change you wish to see in Jamestown,” Goodskills, The Resource Center, and others. All are welcome and the open house is free to attend. Refreshments will be available.
