The Lakewood Rod And Gun Auxiliary Meeting Set
LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Rod and Gun Auxiliary Will hold a meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. There will be a memorial service remembering those members who passed in 2023. Past presidents.will be honored. South Dayton American Legion To Host Blood Drive

Lakewood Library To Host Planting For Pollinators
LAKEWOOD – The Lakewood Memorial Library will host Planting for Pollinators on Wednesday, May 15, at 5 p.m. Professor Janis Bowman will highlight various local pollinators and their needed host plants. An update on the status of the Monarch butterfly will serve as an example of the importance of diverse habitats that include native plants that are needed to support this species and others. The Lakewood Memorial Library is located at 12 W. Summit St., Lakewood.
Library Poetry Contest Submissions Due May 17
The James Prendergast Library is hosting a poetry contest for children in kindergarten through 12th grades. Submissions are due May 17. The Nature In My Neighborhood contest is part of the library’s project to expand its outdoor area to create a teaching garden that wraps around the library building. The garden will feature a poetry walk consisting of five educational sign stations displaying eight poems selected from the Poetry Contest applicants. The theme for this poetry contest is Nature in My Neighborhood: Write a poem that captures the magic of nature and how it makes the writer feel. Poems must be 20 lines or fewer and focus on the natural world. Submit a poem online or bring two copies to the library. The library will provide a form with the student’s name, grade and contact information that can be filled out when poems are submitted in person. A maximum of two poems per author may be submitted.
