First Lutheran To Hold Holy Week Services

First Lutheran Church announces their Holy Week service schedule including Wednesday’s midweek Lenten Service at 11 a.m. rather than the regular noon hour service, when the Bishop, the Rev. Dr. Lee M. Miller II will be the special guest speaker. At that service, the bishop will observe the Holy Eucharist with the Affirmation of Vocation and Blessing of the Chrism Oil. The Rev. Mark E. Swanson, pastor of First Lutheran Church, Jamestown, will be the liturgist. Brian A. Bogey will be the organist. The 11 a.m. service will be followed with a pulled-pork luncheon with homemade pies for dessert in the church parlors for a nominal fee. The luncheon is sponsored by the First Lutheran Altar Society. The Lenten services are sponsored by the Southwestern Conference Lutherans and are held in the Memorial Chapel which is handicap accessible. The public is welcome to attend. The church’s Maundy Thursday will take place Thursday at noon in the Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mark E. Swanson, First Lutheran pastor, will preach. Holy Communion and foot-washing will be observed. The Good Friday service will also be at noon in Memorial Chapel with Swanson presiding and preaching. Bogey will be the organist at both worship services. The public is welcome to attend.

Ellington Church To Hold Thursday Service

ELLINGTON – The Ellington Community Church will be hosting a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the church building, 5009 Thornton Road, Ellington. Easter Sunday services begin at 9 a.m. with a song service. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m. Easter service begins at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

Master Gardener Help Desk To Open April 3

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Master Gardener Program will open its help desk April 3. Chautauqua County Master Gardeners are ready to answer gardening questions from noon to 2 p.m. each Wednesday from April through September. They are also available at the Carnahan Center at Jamestown Community College, 525 Falconer St., Jamestown, at the north entrance of the building. The “GPS Friendly” address is 241 James Ave., Jamestown. Those unable to come to the Help Desk in person can email chautauquamg@cornell.edu or call 716-664-9502, ext. 224. Along with being garden problem solvers, the volunteers at the Help Desk can also provide an immediate pH soil test. A small amount of dry soil is needed for this test, and with the results Master Gardeners can advise if any alterations need to be made to the soil.

Red Cross To Hold Blood Drive

SHERMAN – The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Stanley Hose Company, 122 Park St., Sherman. To make an appointment or for more information, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App. visit RedCrossBlood.org. call 1-800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed 1o ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors | years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
