Fenton To Host Annual Lock-In At Hall House Research Library

On Saturday, Jan. 13, from noon to 10 p.m. the Fenton History Center will hold its annual lock-in at the Hall House Research Library on Forest Avenue. Those interested can come for a few hours or the entire time. The lock-in is an opportunity to spend 10 uninterrupted hours working on a family history. The center has five computers, or those attending can bring their own laptops. In addition to the computers, the center has Ancestry, Family Search and Archiv Digital, hundreds of family files, city directories, town histories, funeral Home records and cemetery records for Chautauqua County. There will be at least two crock pots of food. Organizers ask each person coming to bring either a snack or a dessert. At 6 p.m. the group sends out for pizza. The cost for the day is $30 a person. Those who new to the process can come with their parents’ and grandparents’ names and birth dates if available and volunteers will help begin the process. City Planning Commission To Meet Jan. 16

The Jamestown Planning Commission will meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, in the police training room on the fourth floor of City Hall. Among items on the agenda is discussion of the Arcade Building on Main Street. The public is welcome to attend. Prendergast Library Adds Memory Lab

Workshops

The James Prendergast Library has launched a new genealogy workshop and memory lab from 2 to 4 p.m. Fridays. Those interested can visit the library from 2 to 4 p.m. to have a staff member help use the library’s VHS-to-DVD converter, to digitize slides and negatives, or scan photographs. Staff members are also available to answer questions about our genealogy databases and collection. For more information, call 716-484-7135, ext. 226. Asheville Library To Close Wednesday Through Jan. 21

ASHVILLE – The Ashville Library will be closed for regular business starting Wednesday through Jan. 21 for a major bathroom remodeling project. Volunteers will do their best to fulfill holds and process returns during the closure. Patrons may drop books in the drop box at the side of the library, or at another library branch. The library appreciates the community’s support and hopes to reopen for at least limited hours as soon as possible.
