Allen Cemetery Requests Removal of Decorations

The Allen Cemetery on Willard Street Extension is requesting lot owners to remove all decorations by Oct 31. Compostable items can be placed near the water pump located at the fence.

Scandinavian Culture Day Begins Saturday

Scandinavian Studies Culture Day will begin Saturday in the Jamestown Community College Hamilton Collegiate Center with coffee available at 9:30 a.m. and workshops at 10 and 11 a.m. Culture Day is free and open to the public.

Lakewood Library Hosting Photography Exhibit

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Memorial Library is exhibiting the photography of George Weidenhofer throughout October. Each piece in the exhibit is an image from the natural world constructed to resemble the 1870s era Platinum/Palladium printmaking technique. Using handmade Japanese Koso paper and museum quality framing, these carbon-based prints can last over 400 years. An artist reception will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5 to 7 p.m.

United Senior Council To Meet

LAKEWOOD — The United Senior Council of Chautauqua County will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Lakewood American Legion building. Enter on the far side of the building. Attendees are asked to bring toothbrushes or toothpaste to the grou’s October or November, which will be donated to the Office for the Aging for needy seniors. All county seniors are welcome to attend the meetings.

Theta Beta Chapter Holds Meeting

The Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi recently held their first meeting of the 2023-24 year at the home of Susan Hayes in Sherman. Joan Wahl, a local author, and former member of the chapter, was the surprise guest speaker at the meeting, introducing her first book, “Summer Love in Music City.” Wahl’s book is scheduled to be released on Nov. 7 by Yellow Rose Romance Books. While narrating from the story “Stone Soup”, the members created an Instant Pot soup with healthy vegetables from the Hayes’ family garden. The next scheduled meeting will be Oct. 12 in Mayville.

Local SAR Chapter To Gather

The Chautauqua Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will hold its monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Stockton Hotel. Members will order lunch from the menu. Anyone interested in the War for Independence is welcome to attend. Spouses are also welcome.
