Healthy Kids Open House Today At PVCS

SOUTH DAYTON — Pine Valley Central School District is partnering with Healthy Kids Programs for the 2023-24 academic year to offer after school care for students in Pre-Kindergarten through age 12 and registration is underway. Pine Valley Elementary is hosting an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. today in the cafetoriium at the school located at 7755 Route 83 in South Dayton. When the after-school care option kicks off in September, parents/guardians can pick up their students as late as 6 p.m. Representatives from Healthy Kids Programs will go over who they are, and what the After School program offers, tuition assistance qualifications and how to apply. Families may then ask any questions they may have. Registration for after-school care is now open at www.healthykidsprograms.com.

Outdoor Club To Hike On Sunday

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike Sunday at Chapman Dam. The hike will be about 3 to 4 miles and easy. Members will meet by 2 p.m. at the large parking lot by the boat launch at Chapman Dam. Linda Ross will lead the hike and can be reached at 814-726-3920 or 814-688-5908 for any questions.

Bemus Point School Board To Meet Monday

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point Central School Board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday to appoint a school safety advisor. The meeting will be held in the superintendent’s office located at Maple Grove High School. The public is welcome.

Leon Historical Society Meets Monday

The Leon Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday followed at 7 p.m. by a program about the Underground Railroad in Western New York by Doug Martindale. The public is welcome to attend the meeting. On Sept. 9, the Historical Society will hold its “Amish Crawl” organized by the Amish Trail. It is an open invitation to travel around from site to site and visit the different sites promoted by the Amish Trail. The Leon Historical Society is presenting a program by the Amish ladies demonstrating the steps necessary to make a quilt. The display will be set up in the old church. The group received an Amish made quilt that is on display at the church and the group is selling tickets for it for $5 each or three tickets for $10. The drawing will take place Dec. 10 at the annual Christmas program at the 1836 Church.

Pickut To Speak As Part Of Author Series

Walt Pickut is making a return visit to Hazeltine Public Library on Monday as part of its weekly author series. Pickut, a freelance writer and former editor of the Jamestown Gazette, has written a true spy story “The First Counterspy,” with a local connection. The 6:30 p.m. author series are free and held in the Community Building behind the library, 891 Busti Sugar Grove Road, Jamestown.
