Has Summer Clothing Sale

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets in Jamestown, has all summer clothing $1. Sale hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Off-street parking available in church lot off East Fifth Street.

Churches To Host Picnic In The Park

Fentonville and Wheeler Hill churches are holding Picnic in the Park from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at Koinonia Church Land, 691 Warren Road. The event will include a free picnic lunch, music and rummage sale. All monetary and non-perishable food item donations will benefit local food pantries.

Church To Host Soprano Soloist

First Lutheran Church’s Aug. 27 worship service will include a performance from a noted guest soprano soloist. The Contemporary Worship Service led by the Sacred Fire Praise Team, with Kim King as worship leader and coordinator of contemporary worship, will be in the worship center at 9 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. traditional worship in the church nave, will host a guest soprano soloist, Samantha Grambow, who will sing “Hear Ye, Israel” from the Elijah by Felix Mendelssohn. Samantha Grambow is a classically trained soprano who has appeared internationally and on the opera, oratorio and concert stages. Notable performances include Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms at Carnegie Hall, and the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience at the United Center in Chicago. An accomplished recitalist, Grambow curates lecture-recitals to facilitate conversations and to foster empathy for shared experiences. Also appearing in Sunday’s service is Julie Livengood, pianist, who will be featured in two piano/organ duets for the prelude with Brian A. Bogey, organist/choirmaster. Pastor Mark E. Swanson will preside at both services and deliver the morning message. Communion will be observed at both services. The public is welcome to attend.

New Traffic

Signal Starts Next Week

The New York state Department of Transportation announced that a new traffic signal is scheduled to be activated at West Sixth Street at Whitley Avenue in the city of Jamestown beginning Wednesday, Aug. 30. The new traffic signal will operate in flashing mode from Aug. 30 through Sept. 5. Flashing yellow indications will be on West Sixth Street, while flashing red indications will be on Whitley Avenue during that time. The traffic signal will be fully activated in 3-color operation on Sept. 6. Motorists are advised to use caution when approaching the new signal as traffic adjusts to the new pattern. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
