Special Summer Programs To
Be Presented
On Aug. 24
ELLINGTON — The Ellington Farman Library will be presenting the last of its special summer programs on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 6:30 p.m. as Tina Scherman from the Leon Historical Society performs “Love Letters of a Union Soldier.” Scherman will portray Frant, a young woman from Leon who received letters from her sweetheart Edgar Shannon who was serving as a Union soldier during the Civil War. Their letters blossom into love amid a time of hardship and terrors of the war. The Falconer Geographic Fund through the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is paying for the program. Light refreshments will be served. The library’s Community Room display case has a display of Civil War items from the Fenton History Museum and the Leon Historical Society that correspond with the program. Piorkowski To Present Solo Recital At Rosch Recital Hall
FREDONIA — A solo classical guitar recital will be presented by State University at New York Distinguished Professor James Piorkowski on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m., in the Juliet J. Rosch Recital Hall on the SUNY Fredonia campus. The recital, “In Retrospect: Works Plucked from the Last 30 Years,” will feature selected musical compositions and arrangements created by Piorkowski over the last three decades. Admission is free.
Annual Research Library Open House To Be Held Aug. 30
The Fenton History Center will hold its annual research library open house on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at the library, 73 Forest Ave., from 4 to 9 p.m. The event is free. It is also an great opportunity to get a start on researching a family history.
