The International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend commemorates all the historic lighthouses and lightships around the world that guide sailors across their voyages. This event is open to the public at the Barcelona Lighthouse and everyone is welcome to visit this historic site. The NCARC will have a field station set up at the Barcelona Lighthouse to contact other lighthouses around the world by ham radio.

Amateur radio remains one of the best ways for people, young and old, to learn about electronics, physics, and meteorology. Throughout history this hobby was often the spark for many wonderful inventions. Anyone may become a licensed Amateur Radio operator. There are over 800,000 licensed operators in the United States, known as HAMS.

The NCARC owns and operates three amateur radio repeaters in Northern Chautauqua County. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Fredonia Technology Incubator Building (2nd Floor Video Conference Rm.), 214 Central Ave. Everyone interested in radio is welcome to attend.

Visit the club website for more information about the club: http://users.netsync.net/~ncarc/index.htm and for amateur radio in general visit: www.arrl.org.

Weight Limit Posted On Route 27 Bridge In Sugar Grove Township,

Warren County

SUGAR GROVE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has placed a weight limit on the bridge that carries Route 27 over Matthews Run in Sugar Grove. The bridge has not previously had a weight restriction. The new restriction will limit the weight crossing it to 24 tons or 35 tons for combination loads. Vehicles exceeding the posted weight limit are required to use alternate routes. The weight restriction was implemented after a routine inspection uncovered deterioration to the 32-foot concrete structure. Creating the weight restriction will reduce strain on the bridge and will preserve safety until repairs or a replacement can occur. Work on the bridge in anticipated to occur in 2025. The bridge was built in 1931 and is classified as poor condition. Approximately 1,100 vehicles use the bridge daily, on average.

Starting at $3.50/week.
