Farm Heritage Days Set For This Weekend

NORTH EAST, Pa. — Enjoy North East is proud to present Farm Heritage Days, a mega market and two-day celebration of agriculture from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in Gibson and Heard Parks. The Axe Women Loggers of Maine, a team of world-champion choppers, logrollers and axe throwers, will perform three shows daily at noon, 3 and 5 p.m. In between those shows, listen to country music by Dan Baney, classic rock by Grand Larceny and bluegrass by Generic Grass. Sunday afternoon, stop by for line dancing lessons and then stick around for Night Shift and try out those new moves. Check out the tractor and farm equipment show noon to 5 p.m. in Heard Park. (Open to all ages and models, no registration required.) Saturday there’s hands-on science fun for kids from STEM & Vine and Sunday a petting zoo with ducks, rabbits, chickens, piglets, goats and more from Pony Parties LLC. Check out homesteading demos daily and live chainsaw sculpture artist on Sunday. Nearby at 25 Vine St., the North East Historical Society and North East Arts Council will host an Open House from 1-7 p.m. Saturday featuring art by Ross Peters and a photography show featuring numerous local amateur and professional pieces that showcase North East, its people, places, nature and agriculture. Town Of Busti Open Golf Tourney To Be Held Saturday

The town of Busti will hold the Busti Open Golf Tournament, part of the town’s Bicentennial Celebration, at South Hills Country Club on Saturday. The four-person scramble format tournament begins with a 10 a.m. shotgun start, and registration begins at 9 a.m. The cost is $400 per team. Lunch and dinner will be provided along with fun and prizes. Hole sponsorships are also available for $100 each.  At the end of the tournament, officials will pair a lower half score with a high half score to determine the winner. Town Supervisor Jesse Robbins said the town’s recently held sock hop and cruise-in featured nearly 30 classic cars, with one coming from as far away as Canada.

Chicken BBQ Scheduled For This Saturday And Sunday

The ILS Veterans Club will host its their signature chicken barbecue Sunday and every Sunday throughout the remainder of the month. The club is located next to Arby’s on Fluvanna Avenue. Meals are served starting at noon until sold out. Dinners include a half chicken, applesauce, and a roll. Sides include a choice of roasted potatoes, macaroni salad, or baked beans. The cost for a full dinner is $14; chicken only is $10. Proceeds support service programs sponsored by the Sons of AMVETs and the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary.
