Fenton Canteen Open Saturday

Fenton Canteen will be held Saturday at the Fenton Mansion, 67 Washington St., Jamestown. Canteen is always held on the second Saturday morning of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. New veterans are always welcome to attend. Commander Bill Johnston, VFW Post 53, will speak about his experiences in searching for veterans who went missing in a certain location.

JPD, City To Host Community Meetings

The Jamestown Police Department and the city Department of Development will be hosting four community meetings throughout the summer at various parks in the city. Residents are asked to attend to share the concerns in their neighborhoods. All of the meetings will be held starting at 6 pm. Dates include today at Allen Park; July 20 at Jackson-Taylor Park; July 26 at Lillian Dickson Park; and Aug. 2 at Bergman Park.

Fluvanna Library To Hold

Book Sale

Fluvanna Free Library’s book sale runs from Friday to Sunday. This year the sale offers a wide selection of books and other materials. Chose from children’s easy and junior fiction, adult fiction, Christian fiction, non-fiction, music, movies and puzzles. Many different authors are represented and there is also a large selection of cookbooks this year. On Friday and Saturday, the library will offer a daily hot dog lunch for a small price, including a hot dog, chips and a beverage for $6. On Friday, visitors can also take advantage of the library bake sale. The hot dog sale is near the book sale tent at the front of the building and the bake sale is inside the building. The hours for the sale are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday noon-3 p.m. Sunday is the bag sale. The library does not have scheduled open hours throughout the book sale days. The library is located at 3532 Fluvanna Ave. in Jamestown, next to the fire hall.

Falconer Library Announces July Concerts

FALCONER — Falconer Public Library has announced its summer band concert schedule for July. The free concerts take place in Davis Park, across the street from the library on Thursday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The concerts will be moved to the Falconer Fire Department, 115 Davis St., if there is inclement weather. Today will be Razz and Friends; New Horizons Band on July 13; Pearl City Jazz on July 20; and Mayville Connections on July 27.

Chicken BBQ Planned For

Sunday

A chicken barbecue will be Sunday at the ILS Veterans Club, Fluvanna Avenue, next to Arby’s beginning at noon until sellout. Dinners will include a half chicken basted with their signature barbeque sauce, applesauce, and a roll. Sides include a choice of roasted potatoes, macaroni salad, or baked beans. The cost for a full dinner is $14; chicken only is $10.
