Hold Easter

Sunrise Service

MAGNOLIA — An Easter sunrise service will be held at Magnolia United Methodist Church, 3969 Route 394, Magnolia. Everyone is welcome to celebrate hope in Christ as a short Easter play is presented at 7 a.m. Breakfast will follow the service in the fellowship hall. The morning worship service will be held at 11 a.m. and will include a message titled “What Happened” and special music.

First Lutheran Church To Host Services

First Lutheran Church will hold several Holy Week services, including a Maundy Thursday service on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the church’s Memorial Chapel. The service of Holy Communion will feature the Holy Week liturgy, prayers, hymns, the stripping of the altar, and a choral anthem sung by the First Lutheran Choir entitled “Into the Woods My Master Went” arranged by Austin Lovelace. A foot-washing ceremony will also take place for those who desire to participate. Pastor Mark E. Swanson will deliver the sermon and he will preside at the service. Brian A. Bogey, organist/choirmaster, will be at the organ and direct the choir. The Good Friday service will also take place in the Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. Friday. Psalm 88 will be sung responsively by the congregation, prayers will be offered, and Holy Week hymns will also be sung by the congregation. The sermon will be given by the Rev. Mark E. Swanson, pastor. The public is welcome to attend both of these Holy Week services.

Society Of Artists To Meet April 11

ASHVILLE — The Chautauqua County Society of Artists will hold its first 2023 meeting on Tuesday, April 11, at 5:30 p.m. at the Ashville Library. Members are asked to bring their $20 dues to the meeting. The project will be painting small bird houses. The houses have been sanded and primed, with those attending asked to bring acrylic paints and brushes to complete the project as there are limited supplies. Come with ideas for meeting projects, ideally something that can be completed in an hour or less. Also members are asked to bring any show dates that members might want to participate in. Blood Drive To Be Held April 12

SHERMAN — An American Red Cross blood drive will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. April 12 at the Sherman Stanley Hose Company, 122 Park St., Sherman. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
