Church To Hold Mid-Week Lenten Services
The Rev. Mark Swanson, pastor of First Lutheran Church, 120 Chandler St., Jamestown, announces the annual Midweek Lenten services beginning Wednesday at noon in the Memorial Chapel. Guest pastor this week will be the Rev. Heather Allport-Cohoon. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the church parlors for a nominal fee, sponsored by the First Lutheran Church Altar Society. The public is welcome to attend.
Club Associates Gather Sunday
DUNKIRK — The Northern Chautauqua County Club Associates will hold its regular monthly meeting on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the Dom Polski Club, 179 Lake Shore Drive East, in Dunkirk. Guest speaker will be Vince DeJoy, the director of planning and development in Dunkirk. Any club member is invited to attend.
GriefShare Session Begins February 27
A new GriefShare session begins Monday, Feb. 27, meeting weekly at 6 p.m. at Hillcrest Church, 40 Hallock St., Jamestown. Each session includes a video seminar with encouraging, information-packed presentations featuring leading grief recovery experts followed by small group discussion. A personal workbook provides a guide for journaling and personal study exercises that reinforce the weekly session topics. Seminar topics cover the challenges of grief, the journey of grief, grief and your relationships, guilt and anger, complicating factors, lessons of grief, heaven, and “What Do I Live for Now?” Hillcrest partners with other local churches to provide GriefShare seminars throughout the year offering friendly, caring groups of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Genealogical Society To Meet March 15
CASSADAGA — The Chautauqua County Genealogical Society will hold its first meeting of the 2023 season on Wednesday, March 15, at the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280, 228 Maple Ave. The public is invited to attend. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and the speaker begins at 7 p.m. Sharon Howe Sweeting, town of Cherry Creek historian, will do a presentation on the George H. Frost family covering the time from his first arrival in the early 1800s to the present day. Information from a recently found early Frost family history/genealogy sheet will be presented. Copies of the Cherry Creek cemetery book, compiled by Sharon will be discussed along with the process and funding to have the book published. Some books and information will be available as handouts. Tim Nobles, retired Pine Valley History teacher will provide the graphics for the presentation.
