Sinclairville Free Library Receives Adult Literacy Mini-Grant

The Sinclairville Free Library was granted a 2022-23 Adult Literacy Mini-Grant from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System with the goal of improving digital literacy skills for senior citizens and to provide increased digital audiobooks, ebooks and large print books to benefit those who are visually impaired. The new materials will be available to patrons throughout the library system. Lists of new materials will be made available on the library website. As part of the initiative, the library is offering digital skills training at the library on from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30. Appointments for both are required, with no appointments after 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 7 and after 3 p.m. Dec. 30. The library is also offering digital skills training at the Homestead retirement campus in Gerry, in the basement of the Seeley building, on the following Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. Nov. 4 and 18 and Dec. 2 and 16. No appointments are needed.  Digital skills training includes the use of the Libby app for digital library materials and learning how to use the online library catalog to place holds, renew materials, etc. Library officials will also help in the use of smartphones and other devices upon request. Legion Collecting Items For Blue Star Mothers

Herman Kent Post 777, 26 Jackson Ave., Jamestown, is the collection point for service men and women for Christmas for the Blue Star Mothers. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday from 3-7 pm. and Friday through Sunday from noon-6 p.m. Donations to help with postage can be dropped off at the legion or call the Blue Star Mothers at 716-450-5593.

Sherman Central School Board Meeting Mon., November 14

SHERMAN — The Sherman Central School Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14. The meeting will be held in-person in the school’s auditorium. Members of the public are encouraged to attend. It is required that all in attendance must observe social distancing. While facial coverings are not required they are recommended.

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Board of Health will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the Hall R. Clothier Building, room B-14, Basement Level Conference Room, 7 N. Erie St., Mayville. Comments received from the public will be accepted as communications, and not read during privilege of the floor.
