Board To Discuss Dog Park Proposal

FALCONER — The Falconer Village Board is holding a work session meeting today at 6 p.m. at the Fireman’s Exempt Hall, 1 Coleson Drive, Falconer, to discuss a potential dog park being located inside Falconer Park, near Recreation Building. The board is asking all interested residents to attend the meeting.

Annual Awareness Walks On Friday

The Chautauqua County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault will be sponsoring its 25th annual Walk Against Domestic Violence and 20th annual Unity Day Celebration on Friday, Oct. 7. The walk will begin at noon at Northwest Arena and continue down Third Street to City Hall. Those participating are asked to wear purple to signify Domestic Violence Awareness. The Unity Day Celebration will be held inside the lobby of City Hall immediately following the walk. There will be two survivor guest speakers. A light lunch will be served to those in attendance. This event is free and open to the public.

5K In Corry Set

CORRY, Pa. — A Running to Win 5K event will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, in Corry, Pa. The race will begin and end at Mead Park and loop around the city. All proceeds will benefit Children’s Rescue Initiative, an organization based out of Conneaut Lake that fights to stop human trafficking and save child victims from helpless situations. For registration, T-shirt sales and more information, prospective participants are encouraged to visit getmeregistered.com/RunningToWin5k as well as facebook.com/RunningToWin5k. Same-day registration is available for a cost of $25. T-shirts are available for purchase for $15. Race-day sign-ups begin at 7:30 a.m., and kids under 3 can participate for free; wagons, strollers and baby carriers are welcome. The race begins at 9 a.m.

Explorers Learn About Leaves

The Audubon Community Nature Center’s Little Explorers will focus on falling leaves on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Little Explorers is designed for adults and their 3- to 8-year-old children.

“Falling Leaves” will teach more about leaves, their different colors and what makes them so important in nature. The group might investigate holes in them, compare shapes and sizes and notice which leaves turn colors and which don’t. After a short indoor lesson, those attending will go outside to see how many different leaves are falling around Audubon and collect some to make a craft.  A snack is provided after the outdoor exploration.

This program takes place rain, snow or shine, so dress for the weather. The fee for the program is $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 to 8 and Nature Center members.  Enrollment is limited to 15 children, 30 participants total. Make reservations by Thursday, October 6, by calling 716-569-2345 during business hours or by going to AudubonCNC.org and clicking through “Upcoming Programs.” For ACNC’s most up-to-date COVID-19 requirements, read the COVID-19 Notice at the top of the page at AudubonCNC.org.

The Audubon Community Nature Center is located at 1600 Riverside Road, one-quarter mile east of Route 62 between Jamestown and Warren. Visit the 600-acre nature preserve and visit with Audubon’s three live birds of prey, enjoy the native tree arboretum, gardens, picnic area, natural play space and hike the six miles of trails dawn until dusk daily for free.

The three-story Nature Center building houses interactive displays, a collection of live animals including the Hellbender exhibit, and the Blue Heron Gift Shop. Visitors are welcome Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4:30 p.m. Nature Center members and SNAP/EBT cardholders have free building admission daily. Building admission is also free every Sunday for non-Nature Center members.
