Community Blood Bank Holding Blood Drive Tues. Dec. 21

A blood drive by Community Blood Bank will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at UPMC Chautauqua. According to the blood bank, hospital usage continues to trend upward as the number of people donating has been steadily low. The dip in supply presents an increased concern for blood bank officials because of the holiday season. Community Blood Bank will be closed Dec. 24 and 31 in observation of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays. “Blood and blood products are used to help treat everything from leukemia to burns. That need doesn’t stop, holiday or not,” said Community Blood Bank’s interim executive director Dee Rosenthal. “All types are needed, however, there has been a near constant critical need for type O.” To schedule an appointment, call 716-450-0376. Appointments are encouraged to reduce wait time but not required; walk-ins will be taken as space allows.
