Masters degree

Matthew Southwick of Lakewood is among 4,582 graduates in UMass Lowell’s Class of 2021. Southwick received a master of science in engineering degree in mechanical engineering. Despite the pandemic, UMass Lowell was able to offer graduates the chance to safely celebrate their success through a combination of virtual ceremonies and the in-person presentation of their diploma covers with a family photo at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell May 12 through 14. The virtual portion of the celebration — online ceremonies viewable at www.uml.edu/commencement for the next year ­ featured a range of notable individuals with experience and knowledge to share with the Class of 2021.

AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Dinner Sat. Oct. 16

The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 726, with the support of the ILS Veterans Club, will be hosting a dinner on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. or until sold out, at the ILS Veterans Club, 364 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown. The ladies will be serving a choice of two fresh-cooked dinners: liver and onions or chicken and biscuits including dessert. The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 and under. All proceeds raised for this dinner be used to support auxiliary programs. The dinners may be eaten on site and take outs are available.

MAYVILLE — The North Chautauqua Lake Sewer District board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, in the Gerace Office Building, 3 N. Erie St, Room 331, Mayville. The meeting is open to the public. Masks are required upon entering the building.
