BPU Lifts Order
To Boil Water
A boil water advisory impacting an area of Jamestown Board of Public Utilities water customers that had been in effect since Sept. 8 has been lifted. The affected area included BPU water customers located north of Smith Boys Marina such as Vukote, Loomis Bay and Sunrise Cove and included the BOCES school. Water samples collected on Thursday and Friday from the affected areas show that the water is safe to drink and can be used for all other purposes. The water division incurred a water main break on Route 394 north of Smith Boys Marina which was repaired the same day. Due to a loss of pressure and water in the system, a boil water advisory was placed as a precaution.
Local Gas
Prices Reported
To Be Higher
Gas prices in Jamestown are 5 cents higher this week at $3.348, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. The average price during the week of Sept. 7, 2021, was $3.298 while the average price during the week of Sept. 14, 2020, was $2.357. With the height of summer in the rearview mirror, motorists are seeing some relief at the pump, as the national gas price average dropped by a penny on the week to $3.17. However, the recovery from Hurricane Ida remains slow, with the latest U.S. data showing just under half of the U.S. offshore oil production in the Gulf still idle after companies shuttered production ahead of the storm.
