Auxiliary, ILS Veterans Club To Host Dinner

The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 726 with the support of the ILS Veterans Club will be hosting a dinner on March 27 from 2 to 6 p.m., or until sold out, at the ILS Veterans Club, 364 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown. The ladies will be serving a choice of two fresh-cooked dinners: corned beef and cabbage and chicken and biscuits including dessert. The cost of the dinner is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 11 and under. All proceeds will be donated to a fund set up to repair the USS The Sullivans, a World War II guided missile destroyer moored at the Buffalo Naval and Military Park, which is taking on water and in danger of sinking. The battleship was named in honor of the five Sullivan brothers, who all perished when the USS Juno was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the battle of Guadalcanal on November 14, 1942. The dinners may be eaten on site and take outs are available.

JCC Earns Military Friendly School Designation

Jamestown Community College announced that it has earned the 2021-2022 Military Friendly School designation. Institutions earning the designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. Over 1,200 schools participated in the 2021-2022 survey with 747 earning the designation. The 2021-22 Military Friendly Schools list will be published in the May issue of G.I. Jobs magazine and can be found at militaryfriendly.com. Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey response set and government/agency public data sources, within a logic based scoring assessment. We measure the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for Student Retention, Graduation, Job Placement, Loan Repayment, Persistence (Degree Advancement or Transfer) and Loan Default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.
