City Fire Still Being Probed

Jamestown fire investigators were still looking into the cause of a fire that heavily damaged a commercial building on New Year’s Eve. City firefighters were called to 255 Blackstone Ave. around 4:10 p.m. following reports of a propane tank explosion. Heavy smoke and fire were found by first responders, and according to Battalion Chief Cris Dahlgren, portions of the concrete floor, roof and end wall collapsed. One person was later transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. An emergency demolition was called for the east end of the structure while the west end sustained smoke damage. Firefighters were on scene until about 1:30 a.m. Transmission Pros and ValPro Sanitary Supply occupied space inside the property.

Take-Out Dinner Set For Saturday

The Marco Polo Club in Jamestown will be holding a take-out spaghetti dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday. All customers are asked to enter the parking lot for pickup via the Dexter Street entrance and proceed to the doors on the side of the club. Patrons must remain in their vehicles, and masks must be worn when picking up order. Dinners are $10 for adults, and $5 for children.

Planning Board To Meet Jan. 12

Members of the Chautauqua County Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12. Health Board To Convene Jan. 21

Westfield Quilters Guild To Meet For Open Sew

Members of the Westfield Quilters Guild will meet at the YMCA for an open sew on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weather permitting. Members will work on their comfort quilts for 2021 donations.

Glogg Society Crowns Champ

In the 18th annual contest of the Busti Glogg Society, Eric Anderson of Jamestown was crowned ultimate champion. Although the victory was in front of a much smaller crowd this year, Anderson said, “I still get nervous every time I take the stage.” The holiday brew was based on flavor, aroma, and overall quality.

City Panels Cancel Meeting

The January 2021 meetings of the Jamestown Parks, Recreation & Conservation Commission and the Riverfront Management Council have been canceled.
