Healing Word Ministries Named Food Hub

Healing Word Ministries has been designated to be a hub for food distribution in southern Chautauqua County. The food distribution is sponsored by the federal government according to the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program. The church will receive 1,092 boxes which contain perishable food ranging from meat, fruits, poultry, vegetables, milk, cheese and other variety of stuff. Any one in the community can pick up a box. All churches, food pantries and community groups to spread the news of this information to the people they serve. All community members and their friends and families can pick up a box, or arrange to pick up any number of boxes for those who are not able to pick up a box for themselves. The distribution of the food has to be given out in a timely manner. The items are available first-come, first-serve until all 1,092 boxes are gone. Distribution starts from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and every Saturday for the month of October at the church, 1006 W. Third St., Jamestown. Volunteers are also needed at noon at the church. Hikers Found Sunday By DEC Officials

ARKWRIGHT — Two hikers, lost near Arkwright Falls, were located by Department of Environmental Conservation officers Sunday. Around 7:30 p.m., rangers received a call for assistance in locating the individuals. The ranger drove to hikers’ vehicle on Burnham Road and met up with two New York State Troopers at approximately 7:40 p.m. After receiving coordinates from Chautauqua County Dispatch, the ranger advised the hikers to stay put while he and the trooper hiked to their location. The responders located the 26-year-old hikers from Boston and Lackawanna at approximately 8:30 p.m. with no injuries. The ranger provided water to the subjects and led them out to a nearby road. The hikers arrived back at their vehicle at 9 p.m.

Maple Grove Cemetery Sets Fall Cleanup

FREWSBURG — Maple Grove Cemetery in Frewsburg will be conducting its fall cleanup. All urns, pots and summer decorations should be removed by Oct. 15 or will be disposed of by caretakers. Winter wreaths will be permitted from November to April. For more information call the cemetery office at 922-4084.

Ellington Board Will Hold Two Budget Hearings

The Ellington Town Board will be holding budget hearings on Monday, Oct. 5, and Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 7 p.m. Regular meetings will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

Quilt Guild To Hold Meeting

Beginning in October, monthly Quilt Guild meeting will take place on the second Saturday of the month at the YWCA in Westfield. Coffee and visitation will start at 9:30 a.m., with the meeting to begin at 10 a.m. Those attending should plan to stay for lunch following the meeting, then hang around for an afternoon of open sew until 3 p.m.
