Route 83 Closed At Route 60

The New York State Department of Transportation said beginning Monday Route 83 will be closed at Route 60 in the town of Pomfret to facilitate culvert rehabilitation work. Route 83 will be open to local traffic only. Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on Route 60 to Bard Road connecting back to Route 83 in the town of Villenova. Westbound Route 83 traffic will be detoured onto Bard Road to Route 60. The closure will remain in place for about six weeks but may be delayed in the event of inclement weather. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.

Pig Roast Set For Sunday

The Relief Zone fundraising committee is holding its 14th annual pig roast and 20th year of service celebration Sunday, Sept. 20, At The Relief Zone, 5 Frew Run St., Frewsburg. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until gone. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pulled pork sandwich or hot dog, corn on the cob, baked beans, applesauce, fresh pie or cookies, and beverages. There will be take-out orders and curbside pickup available as well as outdoor seating. There will be a 50/50 giveaway and a basket auction.

County IDA Board To Meet

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency board will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, electronically via live stream on YouTube. Members of the public may view the board meeting by visiting YouTube and searching “County of Chautauqua IDA.” Once on the webpage, viewers can click on videos to watch the live stream. Minutes will be transcribed and posted on the IDA’s website, once approved by the board. The agenda for the meeting will be posted to ccida.com under “News” and “Agenda” prior to the start of the meeting. The Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation board will meet immediately following the IDA meeting.

Blood Drive Set In Sherman

SHERMAN — The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Sherman Stanley Hose Company, 122 Park St., Sherman. To donate, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age or 16 with parental consent, where allowed by state law, weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

VFW To Host Chicken Barbecue

CHERRY CREEK — The Cherry Creek VFW, 7165 Route 83, will host a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. The cost is $11 per dinner.
