BPU Closed On Labor Day

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. In addition, garbage and recycling will not be collected on Monday. Due to the holiday, Monday’s garbage and recycling collection will be delayed until Tuesday. In the same way, Tuesday collection will be delayed until Wednesday; Wednesday collection will be moved to Thursday; Thursday to Friday; and Friday collection to Saturday, Sept. 12. The yard waste site, 1001 Monroe St., however, will be open for its regular 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, hours even though it’s the Labor Day holiday weekend. Customers are reminded that on-line and text payments may be made by credit card, debit card and e-check at jamestownbpu.com. Telephone payments may be made by calling 661-1660, ext. 3, with credit card or debit card. Customers also may leave checks or money orders in drop-off boxes located in the Customer Service parking lot, marked with yellow chains across from the Customer Service Office, 92 Steele Street; outside City Hall on Tracy Plaza; and in the Jamestown Police Department vestibule on the East Second side of City Hall. Payments left after-hours should only be made by check or money order and be identified with name and account number. The drop-off vestibule location at the top of the “D” driveway, 92 Steele St., is permanently closed due to traffic and safety issues. The new drive-up drop-off box located in the parking lot is mounted on a pole directly across from the Customer Service Lobby entrance.

JPS Board To Meet Today

The Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Jefferson Middle School auditorium, 195 Martin Road, Jamestown. Due to New York state guidelines of gatherings not to exceed 50 people, those who want to attend the meeting in person should email jaunita.m.walter@jpsny.org or call 483-4420 to reserve a space before 10 a.m. so that the district doesn’t exceed New York state guidelines. A COVID-19 screening form will have to be completed and masks will have to be worn until seated.

Outdoor Club To Clean Trail

The Allegheny Outdoor Club on Thursday will finish cleaning the brush along the bike trail in Warren at the end of East Street parking area. Members will meet at 9 a.m. Call Earl Ross for any questions at (814) 706-1198. On Sunday, the group will ride on the Sandy Creek Trail from Fishermans Cove to Van. St. Luke’s Thrift Shop Sets Its Clothing Sale

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets in Jamestown, announced its $2 summer clothing bag sale Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Off-street parking is available in the church lot off East Fifth Street. At this time, customers are asked to enter on Pine Street and exit to the church parking lot. If necessary, there will be limited access. The shop will be closed Friday and will open with fall
