Rails To Trails Board To Meet

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Rails to Trails board will hold its annual meeting on Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. at Mayville Park. The event will be held at the large outdoor pavilion between the tennis courts and the lake. Interested guests are welcome. Board meetings are held the first non-holiday Monday of each month at various locations. A slate of officers will be voted upon for the upcoming year. Important issues and challenges will be discussed, including the ongoing work on the developing trail project in Frewsburg. New revised and improved trail guides will be distributed.

Brick Thrown Through Window

U.S. Rep. Tom Reed said a brick was thrown through the window of his campaign office in Corning. In a message posted to Twitter, the Corning Republican said: “Last night a brick was thrown through our campaign office in my hometown of Corning causing extensive damage. Thank God no one was hurt but this renews our commitment to stand up to this hatred and extremism. I will continue to try to unite us as violence is never acceptable!”

Garage In City Damaged By Fire

A garage was damaged in a fire that broke out early Wednesday. Jamestown firefighters were called to 120 Fulton St. around 1:30 a.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the garage. The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. Occupants of the home were able to make it out. Battalion Chief Cris Dahlgren reported no injuries, but said a pet bird did perish as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Off-duty crews were called in to assist, and officers with the Jamestown Police Department also responded.

Fernandez Named CFO

Lisa Haglund, president and CEO of Heritage Ministries, announced that Greg Fernandez of Syracuse has been named chief financial officer of the organization. Fernandez comes to Heritage with 38 years in financial management, previously serving as a consultant for ProNexus, and CFO of Franciscan Management Services in Syracuse. “We welcome Greg’s expertise as we look forward to the future, knowing that he will work alongside our dedicated teams to support the Heritage mission. His experience in not-for-profit financial management will help Heritage to maintain a strong and healthy future as we work each day to promote Hope, Dignity, and Purposeful Living to all those entrusted to our care.” Fernandez obtained both his bachelor’s in accounting and his master’s in business administration from LeMoyne College in Syracuse and has been engaged with Heritage as the interim CFO since May 2020.
