Tripped Breaker Causes Outage

A tripped breaker reportedly caused Tuesday night’s power outage in Falconer and the Jamestown area. The Board of Public Utilities said a cable fault in the Blackstone Avenue area may have caused the breaker at the Dow Street substation to trip around 9:30 p.m. The outage impacted Falconer, the north side of the city, Fluvanna Avenue and the industrial areas of Allen Street and Blackstone Avenue. In addition, the power outage of Falconer shut down a pump station, causing discolored water for 12 to 24 hours throughout the system. Customers should avoid doing laundry until water appears clear.
