Two Receive Hallberg Awards

The Bemus Point 50-plus Alumni Association has presented two 2020 graduates of Maple Grove High School with the Charles and Irene Hallberg Awards. Madelaine Becker was the recipient of the four-year college award. She plans to attend Jamestown Community College in the fall to continue her education in the fine arts field. Austin Lindell is the recipient of the two-year technical award. He plans to attend JCC this fall to further his education into musical production. The group looks forward to meeting these young graduates next year at its annual alumni banquet, which will be held July 17, 2021.

Dwyer Veteran’s Gala Is Nov. 21

FREWSBURG — The Dwyer Veteran’s Gala, previously scheduled for May 5, has been rescheduled for Nov. 21 at the Samuel Derby American Legion in Frewsburg. Reservations are required due to limited attendance for gatherings. Call or text the Dwyer office at 969-5542.

Norden Club Sets Aug. 11 Dinner

The Norden Women’s Club will hold a member-guest dinner Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the Chautauqua Harbor Hotel. Social time will be at 6 p.m., with the dinner at 6:30 p.m. Due to social distancing, attendance will be limited to 50 people. The program will feature the Thule Swedish Dance Team talking about their recent trip to Sweden. Reservations are due by Monday, Aug. 3, by calling 386-3030 or 485-1402.

To Meet Aug. 5

The finance committee of the South and Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts will meet by video conference from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Those wishing to attend the meeting are asked to call 646-558-8656 with the meeting ID 9990449-0210.

Outdoor Club To Ride Thursday

On Thursday, members of the Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bicycles from Youngsville to Garland. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Tops in Youngsville. On Sunday, Aug. 9, the group will ride at Allegheny State Park, meeting at the Red House parking lot before the gate at 2 p.m. Dennis Anderson is the leader of this ride. He can be reached at 969-9772 for any questions. On Thursday, Aug. 13, the club will kayak in the outlet in Jamestown, meeting at McCreas Point at 5:30 p.m.

Historical Society Cancels Picnic

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Valley Historical Society Picnic and meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, has been canceled. The village park where the picnic was to be held has been closed by the village.

Red Cross Sets Blood Drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the American Red Cross Jamestown chapter office, 325 E. Fourth St., Jamestown. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
