Lecturers To Speak Today At Chautauqua

Chautauqua Institution’s nine-week season features weekday lectures focusing on weekly cultural themes. Week Four examines “The Ethics of Tech: Scientific, Corporate and Personal Responsibility,” in which speakers in the 10:45 a.m. Chautauqua Lecture Series program explore the tremendous and sometimes harmful impact Big Tech companies and their products have on society. David Danks, Jennifer Keating and Illah Nourbakhsh will join in a panel discussion centered around Week Four’s theme of “The Ethics of Tech.” Danks and Nourbakhsh serve as professors at Carnegie Mellon University and Keating is a senior lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh. Assembly online began with a beta test version launched on June 22, with the testing phase continuing through August 31, allowing guests to sign up for a 90-day free trial at chq.org/2020-assembly. Following the 90-day trial period, membership will be $3.99 per month.

Outdoor Club Sets Bike Ride For Thursday

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will hold a bicycle ride beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday from the Audubon in Frewsburg along Akely Frewsburg Road and return, approximately 11.5 miles. The rain date is Friday. Bill Ferry will lead the ride and can be reached at (814) 758-1908.

Thule Lodge To Hold Meeting At Falcon’s Nest

FALCONER — The Thule Lodge, which is the Swedish organization in this area, will hold its first meeting of the year in the Falcon’s Nest in Falconer on Thursday, at 7 p.m. Cautions will be observed including wearing face masks and social distancing. New members who applied for membership in the lodge many months ago will be installed. Plans for future events will be discussed at the meeting. Members are encouraged to attend, but attendance is optional. Individual refreshments will be provided by the 3-Cs catering. New members are always welcome.

Blood Drive To Be Held Friday

The Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Riverwalk Center, 15 S. Main St., Jamestown, Suite 300. Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56 days since their last donation; they are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo or body piercing in the past 12 months; are in good general health and do not have a cold or the flu. You must have a valid photo ID in order to donate. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good, solid meal and drink at least 18 oz. of water. Harvest Food Bank Produce Distribution Set

There will be a Second Harvest Food Bank Produce Express Distribution at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 30, for 140 pre-registered families at Calvary Baptist Church, 445, Conewango Ave., Warren. Participation in the Produce Express is free. Those looking to register may call the Second Harvest Foodline at (814) 459-3663 ext. 117.
