Give Big CHQ

In addition to giving big, part of this year’s celebration is about giving back. The Post-Journal and Dunkirk Observer have partnered with Give Big CHQ to recognize individuals, groups, businesses and educators making a big difference in our community. To submit your nominations, email mbird@post-journal.com by June 8.

Group Cancels Clymer Summer Rec Program

CLYMER — The Community Support Group has had to cancel the Clymer summer recreation program for this summer because organizers can’t plan any large group activities. The Community Support Group’s Facebook page will post updates on programs that will be held at local libraries and other places. The group will also try to help those who are struggling by connecting them to organizations that can help.

JCC Panel To Meet Tuesday

The Jamestown Community College Finance and Audit Committee will meet on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Ad Hoc Committee for the Cattaraugus County Campus will meet on Tuesday at 4 p.m. All of the meetings will be held via Zoom webinar technology. To register, visit sunyjcc.edu/events.

Sewer Agency To Meet Today

The Chautauqua County Sewer Agency will meet at 3 p.m. Today. Due to the COVID-19 crisis the meeting will be held by remote Zoom meeting. Members of the public may view the meeting by live-stream on the Chautauqua County Facebook page at facebook.com/ChautauquaCountyGovernment.

Outdoor Club To Ride Bikes, Hike

The Allegheny Outdoor Club will ride bikes or hike at Oil Creek State Park in Oil City, Pa., on Saturday. The group will meet at Petroleum Center at 2 p.m. Those who take part are asked to bring masks in case they are needed. The leader will be Earl Ross.

School Board To Meet Monday

The Bemus Point School Board will meet via livestream Monday at the Maple Grove Middle-High School beginning with an executive session at 5:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting can be viewed at ensemble.e2ccb.org/hapi/v1/contents/permalinks/bpcsdmeeting/view.

Fourth Of July

Celebration Is Canceled

The Chautauqua County Fourth of July celebration in, including the annual parade and festival, have been canceled. In a news release, the committee that oversees the festivities said: “It is with heavy hearts that we have to cancel the July Fourth parade and festivities at Mayville Lakeside Park this year. It was a very tough decision for the committee to make but we feel it is the right decision to make at this time. The committee is, however, still trying to have fireworks. We are working in conjunction with the Village of Mayville, the Town of Chautauqua, and Skylighters to develop and plan a display that is safe for spectators in regards to both fire safety and social distancing. More details will be announced when they become available.”
