School Closes After Accident

SALAMANCA — An incident involving a rail car forced the evacuation and closure of a school in Salamanca on Thursday morning. The Salamanca City Central School District said in a statement that the accident occurred on the rail road tracks near Prospect Elementary School and that argon gas may have leaked. “The school has been shut down and evacuated for the remainder of the school day,” the school district said. “Buses will pick up students and transport them to the high school immediately.” In a follow up statement, the district said: “All students have been accounted for and have been evacuated from Prospect and are en route to the main campus. … We drill and discuss these conditions and the Prospect staff are consummate pros and make sure our little Warriors are safe, calm and re-assured. A rail car accident was not planned but our coordinated responses to environmental emergencies are.”

Music Project Is Postponed

The Community Music Project Chorale, which was scheduled to begin on Monday at Southwestern Central School has been postponed until further notice. More information will be posted at cmpchorale.org, and emails will be set to registered members.

Westfield Church To Hold Pancake Breakfast Sat.

WESTFIELD — The First United Methodist Church of Westfield, 101 E. Main St., Westfield, will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday from 7:30-11 a.m. The cost is $20 for a family, $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and free for children under 5. The public is welcome to attend.

OES To Hold Ham Dinner

FORESTVILLE — Forestville Chapter No. 247 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a ham dinner Saturday from 4:30-6 p.m. at 22 Main St., Forestville. The cost is $10 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. The public is welcome to attend.

School Board To Meet On Monday

The Bemus Point Central School Board will hold a special meeting for the purpose of appointing an interim superintendent at 5:30 p.m. on Monday in the superintendent’s office at Maple Grove High School. The public is welcome to attend.

Panama School Board To Meet

PANAMA — The Panama Central School Board will meet Monday at 7 p.m. in the board room. The public is welcome to attend.

JCC Trustees To Meet Tuesday

The Jamestown Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday, in the boardroom on the Cattaraugus County Campus, Olean, with videoconferencing to the boardrooms on the Jamestown Campus, Jamestown, NY and the North County Training Center, Dunkirk. The public is welcome to attend.

Healthy Bones Class Is Set

FREWSBURG — There will be a Healthy Bones class held at Zion Lutheran in Frewsburg. An informational meeting will be on Thursday, March 26, and the first class will be Tuesday, April 7, running every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:15-2:30 p.m. until Thursday June 11.
