Legion To Host Live Band Sat.

Herman Kent Post Legion will host the band Straight Shooter on Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight. Dinners will be served from 5-8 p.m. There will be a meat giveaway to support our scholarship program and post maintenance. On Sunday, breakfast will be served from 8:30-11 a.m. Small breakfasts are $4 for regular and $6 for a large. Breakfasts are fresh made to order and benefits Post maintenance and scholarships.

Health Board Meets Sept. 19

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Board of Health will hold its meeting on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in the HRC Building, fourth floor conference room, 7 N. Erie St., Mayville.

Panama School Board To Meet

PANAMA — The Panama Central School Board of Education will meet Monday at 7 p.m.

Library Board Sets Meeting

BEMUS POINT — The Bemus Point Library Board will meet Wednesday at the library at 5:30 p.m.

Professor To Talk At Observatory

FREWSBURG — Dr. Darren Williams, professor of astronomy and astrophysics at the Penn State Behrend Campus in Erie, Pa., will give a presentaton Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Martz Kohl Observatory, 176 Robbin Hill Road, Frewsburg. As a teen, Williams started his future career endeavors as an astronomy hobbyist at the observatory. Currently, he is interested in studying the dynamics surrounding the orbits of the planets and moon as well as the evolution of the solar system. After the presentation, tours will be given and the observatory will be open for both members and the public to view the night sky, weather permitting.

Historical Society Meets Tuesday

BLOCKVILLE — The Harmony Historical Society’s monthly dinner meeting and annual meeting will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. As the group continues to celebrate North Harmony’s centennial, the program is about the summer camps that existed in the town. Information from the society’s archives and research by Pam Brown about Camp Twa-Ne-Ko-Teh, Camp Wakonda, Camp Ronnoco and Camp Timbertop will be presented. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to pass. The Harmony Historical Society is located on the Open Meadows Road in Blockville.

Book Reading Set For Sept. 21

ELLINGTON — James C. Vincent will hold a book reading Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Ellington Farman Library, 60 Thornton Road, Ellington. Vincent’s “Beginning Cycles of Life” series of three books follows a young girl named Rita through some life changes in a realistic and entertaining manner. His books are very family-oriented and explore child level explanations to real life experiences that children and adults will both appreciate.
