Senior Council Dinner Slated

All county seniors are invited to the United Senior Council of Chautauqua County’s dinner social to be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Ashville Fire Hall on Stow Road in Stow. Registration begins at 3 p.m., appetizers are served at 4 p.m. with dinner following at 5 p.m. Other events will include Basket giveaways, 50/50 drawing and live entertainment. The cost is $14 per meal. Reservations are required by Thursday by calling Connie Whitman at 763-0544.

Tree Day Set For Monday

The Jamestown Summer Playground Program will be holding a Tree Day event at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Chadakoin Park. Summer Playground Program attendees from all sites will meet at the Chadakoin Park Playground program site to help plant two trees with Dan Stone, city arborist. The summer playground program is made possible through support from the city of Jamestown, the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, and New York State Office of Children and Family Services. Observatory To Host Star Event

The Martz-Kohl Observatory board member Walter Pickut will lead a discussion Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. on the weirdest stars that have baffled scientists. Walter has been a board member at the Martz-Kohl Observatory since 2011 and is currently an editor and contributing writer at the Jamestown Gazette, a weekly community publication. After the discussion, tours will be given and the observatory will be open for both members and the public to view the night sky, weather permitting. The observatory is located at 176 Robbin Hill Road, Frewsburg and is an all-volunteer, nonprofit association that does not charge for admission. A non-member donation of $5 per adult and $2 per child or student is appreciated.

Church Hosting Bible School

FALCONER — Ross Mills Church, 3843 E. Ross Mills Road, Falconer, will be holding a vacation Bible school, “Athens, Paul’s Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth,” from Aug. 5-9 from 6-8 p.m. Children of all ages are welcome and nursery care is available. Parents are welcome to drop off their children or to stay and join the group. For questions or to pre-register, please call 720-0916. Walk-ins are welcome.

Fenton Hosting Churches Tour

The Fenton History Center will host its second annual “A Peek Inside: A Tour of Four Historic Churches” on Saturday, Aug. 10. Those attending should meet the group at the First Covenant Parking lot at 9:45 a.m. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for Fenton History Center members. Children ages 17 and under are free. Cherry Creek Car Show Scheduled

A car show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Cherry Creek United Methodist Church, 6813 Main St., Cherry Creek. Paul Zittel will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. Children’s activities will be available, including a bounce house.
