Seniors Invited To Dinner Social
STOW — All county seniors are invited to the United Senior Council of Chautauqua County’s dinner social to be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Ashville Fire Hall on Stow Road in Stow. This event will include a full dinner including appetizers and dessert. Other events will include a 50/50 drawing and live entertainment. The cost is $14 per meal. Reservations must be made no later than Aug. 1 by calling Connie Whitman at 763-0544.
Mike Randall To Appear At Fire Dept.
FLUVANNA — Mike Randall and Friends will present “Reading is Magic” at the Fluvanna Fire Hall, 3536 Fluvanna Ave., on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The program includes puppets, magic, ventriloquism and audience participation. Lynn Grundstrom, Fluvanna Library director said, “Mr. Randall’s show called ‘Reading is Magic’ is 45 minutes of entertainment, education and fun that will leave audiences wanting more.” Randall has performed at festivals and events throughout Western New York and Canada. He is also the senior meteorologist on WKBW-TV. The program is open to the public and free of charge (though donations are always cheerfully accepted), and is offered in conjunction with Fluvanna Free Library’s Summer Reading Program — A Universe of Stories. This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by Tri-County Arts Council.
Church Thrift Shop To Open
St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St. between East Fourth and East Fifth streets, Jamestown, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The shop has all men’s shirts for 50 cents and men’s slacks and jeans for $1. The shop is closed for Saturdays in July and August. Donations are accepted from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays or during regular business hours. Those with large donations are asked to call ahead at 664-1887. Off-street parking is available in the church lot off East Fifth Street. The all-volunteer staff includes many from RSVP. All proceeds are used locally.
District To Hold Athletic Meeting
FALCONER — The annual Falconer Central School mandatory athletic meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Topics to be discussed include merged teams, rules and regulations, sportsmanship, athletic code and conduct, hydration, concussion management and other sports related injuries. Falconer athletes for all sports and a parent must attend. Sports Physicals will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 8 a.m. in the Health Office. Athletes must have a completed health questionnaire signed by a parent. Health questionnaires may be picked up in the High School Office. Chicken BBQ Planned Sunday
LAKEWOOD — Sacred Heart Church in Lakewood will be holding a chicken barbecue on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. or until sold out. The dinners, which cost $9 each, include chicken by Weidner’s BBQ, potato and macaroni salads, rolls and cookies. The church is located at 380 E. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood.
