Smart Driving Class Dates Set

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Jamestown, is sponsoring a two-day AARP Smart Driving Class, Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30, 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members, payable in advance by check. Pre-registration is required by calling Jack Twinam, New York state certified volunteer driving instructor at 488-1264. Upon successful completion of the class, participants are eligible to receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance for a three year period.

Cemetery Group To Meet Saturday

ONOVILLE — The St. Mary’s Cemetery Association, located at Guernsey Hollow, will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Horseshoe Inn in Onoville. All are welcome to attend.

Library Board To Convene Monday

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Memorial Library board of trustees will convene for a special session on Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 12 W. Summit St. The public is welcome to attend.

Observatory To Host Meeting

FREWSBURG — The Martz-Kohl Observatory, 176 Robbin Hill Road, Frewsburg, will hold its monthly general board meeting Wednesday. All interested members and visitors are encouraged to attend and give their input. On Saturday, July 27, at 7:30 pm, the Martz-Kohl Observatory will welcome Laurie Abadie, deputy manager for communications, NASA’s Human Research Program. Abadie will be presenting a program titled, “Lunar Astronauts: Preparing America’s Next Moon Landing Crew.” Abadie and the team at HRP are working to develop the moon landing crew for the upcoming planned 2024 United States moon landing expedition. At the conclusion of both the meeting and presentation, the observatory will be open for both members and the public to view the night sky, weather permitting.

Veterans Picnic Dinner July 24

FALCONER — A Veterans Picnic Dinner at Levant Wesleyan Church, 1670 Lindquist Dr., Falconer, will be held Wednesday, July 24. The dinner will take place at 6 p.m. and is open to active duty personnel, veterans and their families. The goal of the event is to honor veterans and active duty personnel. It is also constructed to encourage prayer for them and the nation they serve. The main speaker for the event will be combat veteran Eric Hamilton, who will discuss his time in the military. As a member of the U.S. Marines, Hamilton served in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Food will consist of hot dogs, potato and macaroni salads, chips, soft drinks and a dessert. Nursery care will be available for children ages 3 and under. In addition, games will be provided for children by the Levant Youth Group. For more information, call Levant Wesleyan at 708-6215.

July Performance Moved To Aug.

The Summer Bandshell performance featuring the Jamestown Municipal Band that had been scheduled for July 18 has been postponed to Wednesday, Aug, 14.
