Sheriff Warns Of Phone Scam

LITTLE VALLEY — The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning to local residents Wednesday of a phone scam. “The person is claiming to be a representative of National Grid,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. “The two area codes of reported calls are 808 and 718. They are promising to give discounts on your National Grid bills but they are requesting personal information such as Social Security number or account information.” The Sheriff’s Office warned residents not to give out personal info or return calls to the number. “If such a call is received, residents are encouraged to call their local police agency.”

Shadyside Ave. Closed Today

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Public Works Department will close Shadyside Avenue from East Fairmount Avenue to Hunt Road starting at 7 a.m. today. The road will be closed most of the day while it is milled.

Yoga With The Birds Event Set

The Roger Tory Peterson Institute is hosting Yoga with the Birds from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. The session is an all levels, hour-long yoga class taught in the library or outside if weather permits, surrounded by birds depicted through art inside and a view of birds outside in RTPI’s wooded setting. The class is taught by Kara Bemis, a local yoga teacher of vinyasa yoga and hatha yoga. For more information about Bemis, visit www.karabemisyoga.com. Those attending should bring their own yoga mat. Community Giveaway Sat.

Emmanuel Temple Church, 1014 N. Main St., Jamestown, will have its final community giveaway of the summer from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Teens will do a cake walk during which they will give away four cakes and cupcakes. The church will have all types of clothes and other things available. There will also be free hot dogs, chips and drinks available. The public is welcome to attend.

Boating Class Offered July 13

MAYVILLE — The last New York state-approved safe boating class for the season will be offered in Chautauqua County on July 13-14. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 13 and 5 to 9 p.m. July 14. Dinner Event To Be Saturday

NORTH HARMONY — The North Harmony United Methodist Church, 6814 Sherman-Stedman Road, will host a Swiss steak dinner on Saturday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The cost is $8.50 for adults and $4 for children. Take-out orders will be available. There will also be a bake sale table. Proceeds will be used for community service projects.

Library To Hold Story Hours

CHERRY CREEK — The Cherry Creek Library will host story hours at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays. On July 20, story hours will focus on crafts while the library will show the movie “Wall-E” on July 27.
