Class Of 1979 To Hold Reunion

The Jamestown High School Class of 1979 will celebrate its 40th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the new Doubletree Hotel, 150 W. Fourth St., Jamestown. The reunion event will hold a 6-7 p.m. social hour with cash bar, followed by buffet dinner and DJ. For out of town guests, there has been a block of 20 rooms reserved at the hotel. This block of rooms will only be available for up to two weeks prior to event or until all booked. There will also be a pre-reunion social gathering Friday, Aug. 23, at the Pub starting at 8 p.m. Email Katey115@yahoo.com for a complete itinerary as well as the registration form.

Riverfront Council Meets Today

The Jamestown Riverfront Management Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the mayor’s conference room, fourth floor, City Hall. Discussion will include riverfront events and a Riverwalk/Parks Commission update. The public is welcome to attend.

Village Planning Board To Meet

LAKEWOOD –The Lakewood Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the board room of the Anthony C. Caprino Municipal Building, 20 W. Summit St., Lakewood, to review a site plan for the Taco Bell restaurant at 310 E. Fairmount Ave. The public is welcome to attend.

SW School Board Meets Today

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. today in the multipurpose room in Southwestern High School. The public is welcome to attend.

Spaghetti Dinner At Local Legion

FLUVANNA — The American Legion ILS Post 149, 364 Fluvanna Ave., Jamestown, will host a spaghetti fundraiser Saturday from 4-7 p.m. Joe Conti will be preparing the spaghetti. The cost is $9 for adults and $5 for children. The public is welcome to attend.

Historical Society To Host Author

MAYVILLE — Fletcher Ward, a well-known local author, is the speaker for the Thursday meeting of the town of Chautauqua Historical Society in the Sid Compton room at the old high school, 2 Academy St., Mayville at 7 p.m. The public is invited to hear him talk about a new book that he is finishing about the area.

Poland Seniors Group Disbands

Town of Poland Seniors, who were set to meet today, has disbanded due to declining membership. The Poland Senior Citizens was chartered on March 11, 1973, under the helpful direction of Russell Diethrick Jr., recreation director, Jamestown. Also in attendance was Roger Powell, former county legislator. Carol Tonger, MaryLou Terrill and Dennis Riffel were Recreation Committee representatives. “It has been 46 great years meeting with great people, and out of it has come many great friendships.”

Open Research Hours Changed

The hours that the Hall House Research Library is open for research have changed. They are now 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6-9 p.m. the last Wednesday of the month. Saturdays are by appointment only by calling 664-6256. The library is located at 73 Forest Ave.
