Rusz Promoted To Lieutenant

Nicholas S. Rusz has been promoted to lieutenant of the North Maine Fire Protection District on Dec. 8. Rusz is the grandson of Gordon Russell Barton, a graduate of Frewsburg High School, class of 1950. He is also the great grandson of Charles Barton, past Postmaster of Frewsburg. Rusz graduated from Maine East High School in Des Plaines, Ill., in 1999. He has been a paramedic since 2005 and has 14 years of fire service experience. He is happily married to Jennifer (Senft) and has two children: Nicholas Gordon, age 6, and Katherine Pamela, age 1.

Spaghetti Dinner Tuesday March 5

LAKEWOOD — Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 35 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, will host a Shrove Tuesday spaghetti dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, salad, dessert and a beverage. Take-out orders are available. For more information, call the church at 763-8979. Proceeds benefit the church’s efforts to assist world hunger programs.

County Fair Gives Scholarships

DUNKIRK — The Chautauqua County Fair announces recently that 10 $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to current New York state high school seniors and also students enrolled in college. The qualifying students must be active at the Chautauqua County Fair. All applicants from Chautauqua County must submit their application through the Chautauqua County Fair no later than Friday, April 5. Information is available at the Chautauqua County Fair office, P.O. Box 191, 1089 Central Ave, Dunkirk, NY 14048; chautauquacountyfair@netsync.net. or through Cornell Cooperative Extension — Chautauqua County. Applications must be printed and completed from the web at nyfairs.org. For more information, contact the Chautauqua County Fair office at 366-4752.

Library To Feature Themed Programs

CHERRY CREEK — The Cherry Creek Library will feature Dr. Seuss-themed reading programs throughout March. Story time is at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays at the library, with March 16 featuring the movie “Horton Hears A Who.” For more information, call Sharon Howe, librarian, at 296-5105.

Planning Board Meeting March 5

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua County Planning Board’s monthly meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in Room 331 of the Gerace Office Building, 3 N. Erie St., Mayville. Meetings of the County Planning Board are held on the first Tuesday of every month and are always open to the public.

Green Tie Affair Tickets For Sale

MAYVILLE — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program still has pre-sale tickets available for their 7th 4-H Green Tie Affair benefit dinner on Sunday. Tickets for this fun event are still available for $25.00. Tickets will also be available at the door if seats are still available. The Have a Heart for 4-H Green Tie Affair will take place on Sunday, at the Chautauqua Suites. Tickets can be purchased from any Chautauqua County 4-H member, by calling the 4-H Office at 664-9502 ext. 214, or by visiting the 4-H Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The 4-H Office is located in the Frank Bratt Ag Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown.
