Community Group Needs Donations

Community Helping Hands located in Jamestown is in need of gently used donations of furniture, clothing and household items. For possible local pickup of items or for questions regarding a donation, call 487-1488 from Tuesday to Friday between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community Helping Hands is a faith-based nonprofit to be a “hand up” to the community. The group provides emergency assistance to families in need of clothing, household items and furniture in addition to providing job skills training and work experience.

Railroaders Group To Meet Friday

The Independent Railroaders will meet Friday at Conduit Ministries, 120 Delaware Ave., Jamestown. Parking is on the Newland Avenue side of the building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7 p.m. The program for this month will be a slideshow presentation by Gary Widell. The subject will be the North American railroad scene dating back 40 to 60 years. Members are encouraged to pay their fees for the 2018-19 season if they haven’t already. New members are welcome. Industrial Board To Meet Feb. 26

DUNKIRK — The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency Board of Directors will meet Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. at the Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. The meeting is open to the public.

State Park Society To Meet Saturday

RED HOUSE — The Allegany State Park Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the classroom building at Camp Allegany, just past Red House Lake off of ASP Route 2. Guest speaker Tom Bergstue will give a fascinating presentation on on “flint knapping,” the process of creating stone arrowheads, tomahawks, primitive tools, spear heads and weaponry. Mastering this skill was critical for the survival of the indigenous people dwelling in the lands of Allegany State Park and surrounding area. Bergstue’s talk will explain and demonstrate flint knapping techniques and workmanship in arrow-making. There will be several displays shown. Allegany State Park Historical Society monthly meetings are always open to the general public, free of charge.

Positions Open In Town Election

The Carroll Republican and Democratic committees are looking for anyone interested in running for the town supervisor, town clerk, two town board positions, two town justices and highway superintendent positions in the November election. All positions except highway superintendent and one town justice justice position currently have incumbents who are planning on running for re-election. The highway and justice positions are open due to recent resignations. Anyone with interest in running should contact local officials by Feb. 20 due to recent changes in New York State election law.
