Ellery Seniors Met At Church

Ellery Senior Citizens met recently at St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Those serving on the kitchen committees were Maureen Langebartel and Mary Carpenter. Moe Stowell led the flag salute to open the business meeting led by Marty Hunt. Julie and Monty Hatch were welcomed as new members and Ola Olson led devotions, speaking on being thankful and praising God. Bob Garretson, Marty Hunt, BettyLou Cheney and Joyce Rhinehart celebrated birthdays. The next meeting will be Dec. 14 at noon. Lois and Gene Norris and Marty Hunt will serve on the kitchen committee. A Christmas dinner for members, catered by Debbie Stearns of Classic Occasions, will be servedand Chautauqua Shores Chorus, will present a program of familiar music, barbershop-style, to brighten the Christmas season.

Library To Host Sherlock Event

FREWSBURG — The Myers Memorial Library in Frewsburg will host Sherlock Holmes for the Holidays at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Rebecca and Rachel Oshlag will present “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle,” the only Sherlock Holmes story to take place at Christmas time. The presentation includes a discussion of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Holmes, before the telling of The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. Questions and comments will follow. Driving Course Planned Monday

FREWSBURG — A five-hour pre-licensing driving course will be held at Frewsburg High School on Monday from 5-10 p.m. The cost is $25. Pre-register by calling the guidance office at 569-7026 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. When calling, students should be sure to have their learner’s permit on hand.

Kittner To Lead Sunday Hike

Cheryl Kittner will lead a hike Sunday in Warren County from the Route 62 trail head to Sandstone Springs and then back. This will be a strenuous 5 mile round trip hike. Those who attend are asked to meet at the trail head on Route 62 at 1 p.m. Cheryl can be contacted 814-350-9631.

Tree Event In South Dayton

The Charlie Brown Christmas trees on the South Dayton Village Square will be decorated Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children can bring their own ornament or one will be available, to place on one of the Charlie Brown Christmas trees. Those who attend are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the local food pantry. There will be winter games and a chance to dig in a snow filled kettle for a winter prize. Children can decorate foam gingerbread men along with Christmas llama and wooden reindeer ornaments, Christmas stockings, and reindeer antlers at the library. This event is sponsored by the village of South Dayton.

Board To Gather

The Chautauqua County Soil And Water Conservation District board will meeet at noon Wednesday at the district offices in the Northcrest Business Park, 220 Fluvanna Ave., Suite 600, Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.
