Blood Drives To Be Held Locally

Three locations will be hosting blood drives this week. They are today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chautauqua County Offices, 7 N. Erie St. in Mayville; Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Riverwalk Center, 15 S. Main St. in Jamestown; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellington Fire Department, 801 Main St. All donors will receive a chance to a $25 Kwik Fill gift card at each location. Individuals are eligible to give blood if it has been 56 days since their last donation; they are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent); weigh at least 110 pounds; have not received a tattoo or body piercing in the past 12 months; and are in good general health. Donors must have a valid photo ID. Prior to donating, those giving blood should eat a good solid meal and drink at least 18 ounces of water. Walk-ins are always welcome and appointments but can be made if preferred.

SWCS Board Meets Thursday

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education will hold a special meeting Thursday at 7 a.m. in the board of education room. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct school business. The meeting is open to the public.

Reading Program

LAKEWOOD — Lakewood Memorial Library’s summer reading program continues on Tuesday with a visit from Sue Tillotson. The Local Suzuki Strings leader will showcase her violin/fiddle-playing students and offer the chance to try out different instruments. The program begins at 10 a.m. at the library, 12 W. Summit Ave.

Quilters, Crafters Meet Monday

ELLINGTON — The Ellington Quilters and Crafters will meet Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellington Farman Library. All adults are invited to come, work on their project, or just to visit. The group meets the first and third Mondays. There are plenty of electrical outlets in the community room for your irons, sewing machines, glue guns or any other item that needs electric. The library is located in the former Lock, Stock, and Barrel on the Town Square in Ellington, 760 Thorton Road. The library is handicap accessible. Smart Driving Course Is Set

The Bethel Lutheran Church in Jamestown will host a six-hour AARP Smart Driving class Monday and Tuesday, August 20-21, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There are a few openings for the July 16-17 class. The cost is $20 for AARP members, $25 for non-members payable in advance by check. Pre-registration is required. Contact Jack Twinam at 488-1264. Upon successful completion of the class, students are eligible to receive a 10 percent discount on their automobile insurance for a three-year period.

Gazebo Concert Is Set Saturday

The Busti Gazebo Concert will feature The Sunny Side Up Band on Saturday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Ice cream and light foods will be available for purchase during the concert. The event is sponsored by the Busti Hamlet Development Association and the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation.
